Hi, all.

I have had a Mac for some time, but have Windows on it. Plenty of blind users use the Mac, I'm aware, but how good is VoiceOver really? Secondly, where can one get training for this?
Thanks.

I like it. Its got a bit of a learning curve, and the default settings are really not
the best, but it can be really powerful if you take the time to learn it.
As for training, apple provides some learning guides, but unfortunately they
don't dive in to most of the more advanced features.
Guides on places like www.icanworkthisthing.com and www.applevis.com should
help you out though.
I'll answer any reasonable questions you have, and wouldn't mind walking
anyone threw properly configuring voiceover via Skype.

Oh, okay, that would be great. I think it was Stormwing, that would be good in terms of how to configure too.

VoiceOver is excellent and at this point I'm not sure what can be done with Jaws that can't be done with VoiceOVer. With Mavericks also came new versions of apple's productivity software. The Now much of the office stuff done on the PC is quite accessible through pages, keynote and Numbers. Although I have a windows box at work I do as much as I can on the mack and export to word. There are still glitches but Apple is quite responsive to suggestions. I am training a client using the Apple Voiceover getting started guide which can be found at: http://help.apple.com/voiceover/info/guide/10.8/English.lproj/ This is quite an excellent tool for new users and for instructors to teach others.

voice over has a built in training guide. Let me think how to get to such guide, control+option "voice over key" "H" I believe in the voice over menu it will have voiceover training. If I am partly wrong someone please chime in here. Fadora LLC has training as well for the mac.
